The Witness
Did you ever wonder if you are your own mind? If so—are you? If you are, then who is it that is aware you are thinking? Have you ever tried to see your life from the outside, without being dragged down by thoughts and emotions that only bring fear, despair, and hopelessness? Have you ever tried to see others through that same lens? Did you ever pay attention to your thoughts and feelings as if you were a fair judge, only observing and making an unbiased decision?
Imagine that your life is a stage and everyone is playing a role, including yourself. Can you look at the play without being immersed in it? Can you just observe it as if you were a spectator of your own life? Have you ever tried it?
Imagine you are examining a painting. If you look too closely, you won’t be able to see the whole image. You may see the eyes or the nose, for example, but not the face. Can you take a step back and look at it in its complete form to gain a broader perspective?
